1. Set tiny targets

When we’re not sure what we should be concentrating on, we have a hard time keeping our motivation. When we have a big goal or mission, this usually happens because we see it as one big job.

Every purpose or mission, however, is made up of a lot of small pieces. It’s easier to get stuff done by breaking it down into smaller pieces.

Smaller targets and tasks of bite-size give us easy little wins. It’s these short little wins that are going to help you regain motivation.

For instance, if you have a goal of decluttering your whole house, when you look around and still see loads of clutter, it would be easy to lose motivation. But if you make one drawer or a closet a smaller target to declutter, you make your goal short and easy. Decluttering the whole house is daunting, but decluttering a drawer or another specific area is not at all overwhelming.

You will feel productive and inspired to continue decluttering other areas of your home every time you achieve the smaller target you set. Eventually, you recover your motivation and your ultimate goal will be accomplished.

2. To encourage yourself to refocus, take a mental break

Breaks will help you find your motivation again because once you’ve worked on a project for so long you will sometimes get too caught up with rushing to finish it, and in turn, once you did the quality of what you wanted for it to turn out will not be as good as you hoped it will be. So breaks will help you find motivation if you lose focus on the goals that you set.

3. Give yourself time where you disconnect

Put aside the telephone, the laptop, and the TV. Allow yourself to write, ponder, let your mind wander, and visualize the possibilities that you have thought or failed to communicate with.

Don't get so caught up with distractions that you don’t allow yourself a chance to clear your minds and tap into the motivation inside of you.

We all have excellence in us. If we give ourselves those opportunities, we continue to move forward, and we continue to develop ourselves in ways that we might not have previously felt were possible.

4. Listen to traditional songs

For inspiration, classical music is good because it’s so complex. It will place you in a better state of emotional absorption of data and help you relax. You are more open to fresh ideas because you are more comfortable and in a stronger learning frame of mind, which may be the ideal catalyst for the issue you are working on. Select another style more to your taste if classical music isn’t your style. Try instrumental music from a soundtrack, for example, or even something with lyrics that energize you.

5. Give a Break to Yourself

You will drop a ball or two at some point, no matter how productive you typically are, no matter how well you handle your time, or how many things you get checked off your to-do list.

When that happens, here’s what you do; you know it’s all right. We are outstanding at showing grace and compassion to others, hiding it from ourselves all the while. We tend to feel defeated when we do this and we lose our motivation. Now and then, we need to give ourselves permission to drop balls, pick ourselves up and keep on going. This is also exactly what we need in order to restore our drive to continue our goals and pursue them.
